Dear Reader,


As we head into this season of gratitude and generosity, we are writing to ask that you make a year-end gift to TAUNY. Your continued support is really important to us.


It’s been a great comfort and motivator for TAUNY’s board of directors and staff in 2021 to interact with a growing community that values TAUNY’s mission to connect people across the North Country and beyond through the diverse cultures, customs, and crafts of everyday life in our region. We appreciate the encouraging messages we’ve received as we’ve continued to adapt as an organization. Now, to continue that work, we need your financial support.


More than 30% of TAUNY’s annual budget comes from donor support. This is what those gifts made possible in 2021:


The TAUNY Center remained open as a key community space and visitor destination in downtown Canton. We made gallery space available to artists and organizations to share presentations of their community projects and provided working space to artists.

We continued to support artists in our North Country Folkstore with special spotlights and expansion of online sales at a time when most markets for artists were closed.

Through our Folk to Table project participants were able to experience and learn about local food traditions through garden tours, videos, workshops, and tastings in our demonstration kitchen. From Blue Mountain Lake to Plattsburgh, we explored community farming, subsistence gardening, wild edibles, and home cooking.

When people couldn’t come to us, we went to them with monthly online events that allowed participants to meet and interact with people who share their interests, such as the lives of Amish women, the effect of climate change on local culture, and folk art as an expression of North Country identity.

We have ambitious plans for 2022 that include an exhibit on the Hornbeck Boat Company and its significance in the history of recreational paddling in the North Country, and a return to a full schedule of favorite programs: workshops, North Country Living Traditions Awards, cooking programs, and more. Your contribution will be a vote for us to move forward.
