The Board of Directors of Traditional Arts in Upstate New York has issued a statement thanking the public for helping the organization reach its goal for annual giving by making gifts to its recent spring appeal.  Board President Jackie Sauter states, “Each year, donations from individuals and businesses in the North Country are a critical part of TAUNY’s operating budget, closing the gap between operating expenses and the revenue from grants and earned income.  These local gifts are also an important signal to outside funders that TAUNY’s contributions to life in our region are valued by those who live here.” TAUNY Executive Director Jill Breit adds, “We sincerely thank our many wonderful supporters for their faith in the work our staff does and their commitment to helping us continue to grow and evolve as an organization.”

TAUNY’s mission is to provide opportunities for residents and visitors to engage with and learn about the way people live, work, play, and create in New York’s North Country.  TAUNY staff documents the people and places that contribute to conservation of regional traditions, building a research collection about local life that now includes hundreds of interviews and thousands of photographs. The organization offers dozens of free programs each year, develops exhibits that travel to small museums and libraries in the region, and runs a shop that sells the work of regional artists.  The TAUNY Center in downtown Canton serves as a tourist destination and community gathering place. Plans for the upcoming year include development of a new digital exhibit featuring recipients of TAUNY’s North Country Heritage Award that will be accessible in TAUNY’s gallery and online.
