TAUNY Presents New Video "Feeding Community: littleGrasse"
A Grow and Tell Project Production

Photo Caption: littleGrasse founders Flip and Bob at their Community Farm in Canton, NY

TAUNY’s Grow and Tell Project has brought chances for the community to tour gardens around the region, try foods from community members’ traditions at The TAUNY Center kitchen, and enjoy videos featuring regional growing and eating traditions from home.

What a delight it's been to share in the experience of this past growing season through our partnership with littleGrasse Foodworks for the 2021 Grow and Tell Project! Thanks so much to littleGrasse for their time and energy sharing in this project, and to all who help make the farm such a remarkable place and who have contributed to this project. We hope you'll enjoy this next video in the project series: "Feeding Community" with littleGrasse Community Farm, and stay tuned for the final video in the series, coming soon!

littleGrasse is a diversified small-scale community farm one mile from the village of Canton, NY, and TAUNY's partner in the 2021 Grow and Tell Project. LittleGrasse supports community health and well being by offering unique "free choice"and homestead farm share options of vegetables, herbs and flowers. They use zero pesticides in their growing practices, and welcome people to enjoy the farm as a community space for connecting with the local food system.

They choose crop varieties with multiple priorities in mind including flavor, suitability to our northern climate, and capacity to be preserved. They grow with an eye on sustaining themselves and the community through the long North Country winter. In doing so, they learn from and build on long-standing regional traditions of working with the environmental conditions to grow on a subsistence model. They also grow varied crops inspired by shareholders' own food interests and experiences, engaging people and their palates in a way that both connects them to treasured food traditions and inspires them to create new ones. As they say, they aren't selling food, they're feeding people, and in the process they are always working to build community resiliency by fostering meaningful connections between the farmer, the shareholder, and the ecosystem of the gardens. The "Grow and Tell Project” is a 2021 collaboration between TAUNY and littleGrasse Community Farm (Canton, NY) and part of TAUNY’s Folk to Table traditional foodways project. “Grow and Tell” highlights how the food we grow or get locally reflects and helps sustain our food traditions throughout northern NY. Learn more at tauny.org. This project is made possible by support from the Cloudsplitter Foundation and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
