This year TAUNY is celebrating it’s 30th anniversary with a quilt made by the generous support of TAUNY friends and local businesses. On Saturday, October 22 at 10:00 am TAUNY will host a quilting bee to tie the 30th Anniversary Signature Quilt. A Mennonite sewing circle from Lewis County will set up a quilt frame in the main gallery of The TAUNY Center and demonstrate to visitors how to tie the three layers of a quilt together. Guests are invited to stop by to watch the quilters work, or step right up to the frame and help tie some knots.

Area needleworkers have spent the past few weeks stitching signatures on quilt blocks, featuring the names of local people and businesses. The quilt will become part of TAUNY’s permanent collection and will be unveiled at TAUNY’s annual donor reception on November 4. Following the unveiling, the quilt will go on display in the main gallery of The TAUNY Center. Quilter Jill Josephs of Potsdam, the Canton-based North Country Stitchers, and members of a Mennonite sewing circle in Lewis County have all volunteered to piece, embroider, and tie the heirloom quilt. Regional quilt shops Celtic Knot and Misty Hollow donated supplies for the project.

The public quilting bee marks the final day to see  "Warmth, Remembrance, and Art: 200 Years of Quilts and Comforters in Northern New York," an exhibition including more than 70 quilts, covering many topics including history, uses, techniques, community, art, and more. The exhibition is funded by The Coby Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. This exhibition will be on view through October 22nd.
