Traditional Arts in Upstate New York (TAUNY) Seeks Finance Manager and Development Associate:

Finance Manager:

TAUNY seeks a motivated, experienced Finance Manager to work at The TAUNY Center in downtown Canton, NY. The part-time (20-25 hour) Finance Manager will be responsible for general accounting & billing, maintaining financial record keeping and policies, and budgeting for the organization. Reporting to and working closely with the Executive Director, Finance Manager will have facility in accrual-based accounting/bookkeeping (Quickbooks), Shopify integrations, non-profit wholesale consignment financial management, and generating financial statements. Knowledge and competence with Excel spreadsheets is also essential. 

Additional experience in non-profit financing is preferable, including: grant reporting, tax filings, and Charities Bureau reviews. The ideal candidate will be in the office on a consistent basis, have effective organizational and IT proficiency, and an interest working in a fast-paced, team driven environment. An ability to communicate effectively is a must, along with a willingness to adapt and tighten fiscal policies and procedures as the organization evolves and grows. The position has the potential to grow into a full-time office management role, overseeing the Folkstore, basic development and overall systems operation.

Finance Manager Tasks:

  • Day-to-day general and Folkstore accounting/bookkeeping using Quickbooks & Shopify software.
  • Develop P&L & Balance Sheet reporting and support in the preparation of year-end projected and fiscal year (Jan 1 – Dec 31) actual budgets.
  • Work closely with CPA to develop financial policy and procedures, streamlined chart of accounts, and prepare 1099 tax statements for annual filings to the IRS.
  • Develop W-9 and Independent Contract agreements with artists and contractors TAUNY works with.
  • Oversee and manage bi-weekly payroll and income and salary tax payments and filings to IRS & NY State.
  • Work with the Executive Director to ensure that Financial & Personnel policy manual guidelines are being followed.
  • Work closely with TAUNY Folkstore & administrative team to ensure timely, efficient and transparent financial record keeping and positive financial relations with artists and contractors.
  • Process efficiently and in a timely manner all restricted and unrestricted funds, accounts receivable & payable, following appropriate accounting principles and practices.
  • Make regular bank withdrawals, transfers and deposits.
  • Strategize around fiscal and accounting policies and procedures that ensure best operations of the TAUNY Center and its Folkstore.

Requirements & Start Date: An associate degree (AA) in accounting, finance, or business is recommended, and a BA preferred, along with 3-5 years of experience working in a non-profit or for-profit organization as a bookkeeper or financial manager. The position is part-time 20-25 hours a week at $20-$25/hour. Hours can be scheduled flexibly, however the need for in-person presence at the TAUNY Center is essential.

Traditional Arts in Upstate New York (TAUNY) Seeks Development Associate:

The Development Associate is a part-time position charged with providing support for the organization’s development work by building and sustaining ongoing philanthropic support for TAUNY. Annual goals and fundraising targets will be established jointly with the Executive Director and Board of Directors. The position pays $18-22/hour (dependent upon the candidate’s background & experience) and has an anticipated start date of February 15th, 2024 but will remain open until filled.

The Development Associate will:

  • Develop a strategy for increasing and sustaining annual & major gifts and bequests to TAUNY. 
  • Support the stewardship of key relationships with prospective donors, local business and community leaders to solicit gifts.
  • Plan and implement program underwriting and special fundraising initiatives.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings to plan and communicate development work with TAUNY team members.


• Ability to organize and prioritize work.

• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. 

• Facility with Microsoft Office suite (Word and Excel) and basic CRM donor database management 

• Adaptability in response to team needs 

• Strong focus on donor stewardship & satisfaction. 

• Assist in the planning and production of donor cultivation and fundraising events, including soliciting and coordinating donations and volunteers, and attending and participating in such programs.


• Process donations and prepare gift acknowledgement letters, receipts, and other correspondence with donors. • Manage TAUNY’s cloud-based donor database (Little Green Light), continually updating and correcting database records. 

• Consult with Business Manager to reconcile giving records. 

• Provide TAUNY Treasurer and Executive Director with reports as requested. 

• Produce mailing lists and coordinate production of appeal and bulk mailings to donors.

The successful candidate should have these preferred qualifications:

  • Completion of a two or four-year degree in a related field.
  • 3-5 years of applicable experience.
  • Working skills with Microsoft Office software and donor software.
  • Enthusiasm about working with TAUNY’s staff and Board of Directors to fulfill the mission of the organization.
