Artist Spotlights

On a rotating basis, The TAUNY Center focuses on one or a series of local or regional artists to highlight in the Folkstore. Their work is chosen for its complements to the TAUNY mission, and a refined exhibit is made in the spotlight section of The Center. The display is constructed to be thematic, aesthetically pleasing and showcases the biography and artistic style of the artists. Each spotlight kicks off with an opening reception which includes a meet and greet with the artists at The TAUNY Center, and the work is typically on sale as part of the Folkstore.

CURRENT SPOTLIGHT ARTIST

Jennifer Sampson

Opening: March 1st, 2025 & On display through April 30th

Location: The TAUNY Center

Born in California, Jennifer Sampson is a plein air and studio oil painter who has lived all over the world.

Artist Quotation: “For most of my adult life, I’ve painted urban landscapes, primarily in the studio, because I’ve found myself in urban environments. Over the past few years, I’ve been taking advantage of the beautiful location I find myself in to practice landscapes. I struggle more with nature because I esteem it so greatly. If it’s already perfect, how can I hope to do it justice? So I’m working to push past my feelings of inadequacy and instead focus on the enjoyment of being surrounded by beauty, practicing, experimenting, and hoping it turns out.”

Former Spotlight Artist: Sandra Hildreth

Plein air oil painter Sandra Hildreth was featured from November – December, 2024 at The TAUNY Cetner Folkstore. Her captivating work was inspired by the natural elements she found in areas where she lives, including the Adirondacks.

Artist Quotation: “I paint what is wild. It might be a moss covered glacial erratic deep in a tangled old growth Adirondack forest. Or the expansive view from a ridge top trail in Glacier National Park. These are the places that move me and so they become the subject matter of my paintings.”
