During November and December TAUNY’s North Country Folkstore is presenting a Meet the Artist series on Saturdays from 1 to 3 p.m.  Selected artists and crafters will be in the Folkstore to demonstrate and talk about their work and answer visitors’ questions.

This Saturday, November 12, woodworker Jack Taylor will be the visiting artist.  Known for years as the "chief cook" at St. Lawrence University, today Jack Taylor can be seen most days sporting a baseball cap adorned with one of his hand-carved mice.

After retiring from St. Lawrence – “and a 30-year, very busy career” – in 1994, Taylor became bored and restless.  “Wood carving changed my life,” he says. “It offered me exciting challenges and an art form that provides unlimited opportunities to learn and improve my skills in my retirement years. “ While many carvers specialize in one form of carving, such as chip carving, song birds, water fowl, caricatures, animals, stone carving,  etc. ,  Jack is constantly looking for new ways to expand his carving experiences.

Taylor loves giving his carvings to friends and relatives and has given hundreds of his carvings to those he thinks would enjoy them.
