GINGERBREAD CREATIONS WOW TAUNY VISITORS
“Amazing and beautiful.” “Fun and exciting.” “Exactly where I would want to live if I were a gingerbread man!”These comments from the judges of TAUNY’s 2009 Sugar & Spice Gingerbread Contest are just a sprinkling of the enthusiastic responses heard from judges and visitors alike about the entries in this year’s contest and display. “It’s a great year for gingerbread,” said TAUNY Executive Director Jill Breit. “There are some wonderfully creative and beautifully executed pieces. People won’t want to miss the display this year.”
Judges Lynn Ekfelt, editor of TAUNY’s cookbook Good Food Served Right, and Brian and Jenny Walker of the 1844 House, had tough choices to make among the outstanding entries. After carefully evaluating them all, they awarded prizes in the following categories:
Adult 1st Place – Adirondack Chalet, Rebecca N. Weld, Potsdam
2nd Place – The Old Canton & Savings Bank Building, Sue Wilder, Olmstedville
3rd Place – Fineview Farm, Thompson Family, Lisbon/St. Lawrence County
Children
1st Place – Almanzo Wilder Homestead, Pierce Family, Heuvelton
2nd Place – Snowy House, Xiamara Oey-Langen, Canton
3rd Place – Candy Cottage, Michael, Meagan, and Maureen Pierce, Heuvelton

Youth1st Place – Our North Country Farmyard, Myers and Wurster, Potsdam
2nd Place – Candyland House, Girl Scout Troop 247, Hopkinton
The Sugar & Spice contest and the exhibit, which will remain on display through December 22, are possible thanks to generous underwriting contributions from Stewart’s Shops and Riverside Liquor.
