During the month of February, visitors to TAUNY's North Country Folkstore can see a special display of the work of woodworker Gene Newman. Along with hundreds of other North Country artists and producers, Gene's work is available for purchase year-round in the Folkstore. During February additional of his works will be on display, and on Saturday, February 20, from 1 to 3 p.m., Gene will be in the Folkstore to demonstrate and talk about his work.

A Canton native, Gene Newman has been carving wildlife sculptures from various types of North Country wood for 25 years. A self-taught artist, he works primarily in cherry, butternut, and maple; his interests in the natural world serve as his main inspiration.  Currently Gene is exploring creative ways to display his flower sculptures, some of which can be seen at the Folkstore. A multi-award-winning sculptor, Newman also spends his free time building competitive racing canoes.
