North Country knitters and crocheters have been busy creating hats for TAUNY's January mini exhibit, which opens this Saturday, January 9.

All entries in the display, which are also part of the North Country Noggins contest, are handmade, wearable, and appropriate for use in the North Country. Original designs were encouraged as was the use of natural fibers.

Entries will be judged before the exhibit opens by a team of accomplished and experienced needle workers: master knitter Barbara Klemens, owner of the Yarn Shop in Canton for over 50 years; Kate Wells, a passionate knitter who has been knitting since she was a teenager; and TAUNY Board member Hallie Bond, who is also an avid needleworker.

Hats will be judged on execution of construction, aesthetic appeal of color and fiber, success of design in serving the purpose, and general appeal. Prizes have been donated by Misty Hollow in Potsdam, Linsie Woolsie in Canton, and Fiber Options in Rensselaer Falls.

The North Country Noggins hat exhibit will remain on display through January 23, 2010.
