On Saturday, October 8, from 1:00-3:00 pm, TAUNY will host a presentation entitled Generations of Quilters: A Visit with Quilting Families. In the North Country, quilting often “runs in the family.” Historian Mary Jane Watson, who comes from a quilting family herself, has been studying the genealogy of multi-generation quilting families. She will be joined by members of a few of these families for this program. We’ll learn about Mary Jane’s research and see examples of quilts passed down through the featured families. Guests are invited to participate in the conversation, share their own stories about their own mulit-generational quilting families, and bring examples of their family quilts. This program is free and open to the public.

This presentation is part of TAUNY's current focus on quilting in the North Country. "Warmth, Remembrance, and Art: 200 Years of Quilts and Comforters in Northern New York" is an exhibition including more than 70 quilts, covering many topics including history, uses, techniques, community, art, and more. The exhibition is funded by The Coby Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.

The TAUNY Center is located at 53 Main Street, downtown Canton. TAUNY is a nonprofit organization that showcases the folk culture and living traditions of New York's North Country, offering opportunities to experience, learn about, and reflect on issues related to life in our rural region. More information is available at tauny.org.
