On Friday, November 6, and Saturday, November 7, TAUNY will participate in the St. Lawrence County Arts Council’s Open Studio Tours. The TAUNY Gallery and North Country Folkstore hours will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Now showing in the TAUNY Gallery is “Anatomy of a Packbasket,” an exhibit that examines the history and process of making an Adirondack packbasket. Photographs taken by TAUNY’s Photography Director Martha Cooper show the steps basketmaker Bill Smith of South Colton follows to make the regional icon, from finding and felling the perfect black ash tree to adding appropriate straps and fittings.

On Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m., North Country Folkstore Manager Jody Tosti will welcome Robert LaCroix, Lynn Ekfelt, and Sarah Crotty to TAUNY’s museum shop. They are the first in the series of Featured Artists who will visit the Folkstore on Saturdays during November and December to talk about and show their work.

During the Open Studio Tours, woodcarver Robert LaCroix’s will demonstrate his work, which reflects his Franco-American heritage;  Canton’ s Lynn Ekfelt, folklorist and editor of TAUNY's Good Food Served Right , will sign copies of the award-winning cookbook; Sarah Crotty will show her knitting technique and projects.
