Mini-Exhibit Showcases Egg Decorating Tradition
Elizabeth (Libby) Brandt of Canton has been decorating pysanky—traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs—for over 40 years. More than 100 of her extraordinary creations will be on display at The TAUNY Center from Saturday, March 9, through Saturday, March 30.
Pysanky are created using a wax-resist and over-dyeing technique, and incorporate traditional, richly symbolic designs. Pysanky decorating was a family tradition for Libby’s children, and they have now passed it on to their children. Libby’s husband, Denny, has even created a special mechanical means for blowing out eggs quickly and efficiently.
Libby will be at The TAUNY Center for the exhibit opening on March 9 from 1 to 2 p.m. to answer questions about her work.
