This October TAUNY will celebrate and encourage one of today’s most popular folk arts by holding a jack-o’-lantern contest and Halloween party at The TAUNY Center. Everyone is invited to enter jack-o’-lanterns in the contest and to come view the pumpkins, vote on their favorites, and enjoy Halloween festivities.

Pumpkins carved without the use of patterns or commercial carving kits are eligible for the contest; prizes will be awarded for adults, children (aged 17 and under), and families (any combination of children and adults). Entrants are asked to bring their jack-o’-lanterns to The TAUNY Center on Friday, October 28, or Saturday, October 29, by 4 p.m.

The Halloween fun begins Saturday, October 29, at 5:30 p.m., when the public is invited to come and marvel at the creativity and skill of their pumpkin-carving neighbors and to vote for their favorite jack-o’-lanterns. Halloween treats and refreshments will be served, and TAUNY staff will lead family-friendly games. Voting will close at 7:30, and winners will be announced soon after. All jack-o’-lanterns will be lit up for viewing from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in TAUNY’s Main Street window.

A $1 entry fee per pumpkin will be requested to defray the cost of prizes. Please bring a candle with your pumpkin. Entrants are asked to bring their pumpkins home at the end of the evening.
