Annual Class Day
Founded in 1916 by philanthropist William H. Miner, Chazy Central Rural School was one of the first centralized school districts in the country, boasting such progressive features as arts and physical education, as well as free medical and dental care for the whole community. It has always encouraged a variety of traditions that are greatly valued in the community, perhaps the most important of which is the annual Class Day. Begun with the first graduating class and voluntarily carried on by students to this day, it celebrates the senior class’s connection to one another, their school, and their community. Class Day is similar to a moving up day but more elaborate and ritualized than those found at other schools. The day’s events, which include processions, songs, the giving of a class history, and a tree dedication by the formally dressed seniors, remain very close to those of the first Class Day in 1919.Note: All images, text and other material found in this website © 2024 TAUNY.
